Activated carbon prepared from corn biomass by chemical activation with potassium hydroxide

چکیده
With the depletion of fossil fuel feedstocks, lignocellulosic biomass, including agro-wastes, can serve as best alternative source to produce activated carbons (ACs). Corn biomass (corn leaves, stalks, cobs without kernels, silk, and kernels) were used ACs in a two-step process. Crushed plant material was carbonized at 600 °C then obtained carbon using potassium hydroxide 750 °C. The content type surface oxygen functional groups determined by Boehm method infrared spectroscopy. porous structure AC nitrogen adsorption/desorption -196 °C, thermal resistance thermogravimetric method. iodine number also determined. derived from corn characterized with surfaces rich chemical revealed highly developed structure. specific BET area ranged 1600 m2/g 1965 m2/g. High values approx. 1300 mg/g, indicated an extensive system pores their good adsorption properties.

Preparation and Characterization of Activated Carbon from Lapsi (Choerospondias axillaris) Seed Stone by Chemical Activation with Potassium Hydroxide
Activated carbon (AC) was prepared from Lapsi seed stone by chemical activation with Potassium hydroxide at 400°C. The AC was characterized by pH, moisture content, Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), methylene blue (MB) and iodine (I2) number. FT-IR spectra indicated the presence of various oxygen containing functional groups on the surface of AC...

Background: Metoprolol (MTP) with its low biodegradability is one of the most dominant micropollutant in the effluent of wastewater treatment plants. The aim of this study was to investigate the removal of metoprolol from aqueous solutions by the activated carbon prepared from pine cones. Methods: The pine cones were activated using thermal activation method. Characteristics of the adsorbent w...
متن کاملAdsorption of copper, lead and cadmium from aqueous solutions by activated carbon prepared from saffron leaves
Background: Industrial development has caused the release of various pollutants including heavy metals into the environment. These toxic compounds are extremely dangerous to living beings and the environment due to their non-biodegradability, severe toxicity, carcinogenicity, the ability to be accumulated in nature and the ability to contaminate groundwater and surface water. The aim of the pre...
